What Should Be In Your Hospital Bag

4 minute read, Written By: Momly

As your due date starts approaching, you’ll experience a plethora of emotions- happiness. excitement, nervousness, anxiousness and so much more. However, the only way to channelize your apprehensions in a positive direction is to make sure that when your child arrives, you have everything to welcome him or her into this world. Motherhood, as we all know, is all about nurturing, fulfilling our duties as sincere mothers and being accountable for our little ones. Hence, one must ensure that one has all necessary items- be it for yourself or the baby.

Only when you are well prepared yourself, you will be able to take care of your baby. Here is a list of items for mothers as well babies that must be in the hospital bag.

For the Mother

Comfortable clothes: You might have loved your maternity fashion with all those fancy gowns and laced long skirts, but what must be in your hospital bag is all your comfortable pyjamas, nightgowns, loose t-shirts- in a nutshell, whatever comfortable clothes you can think of. A nursing bra is a must. For footwear, slipper socks are great for keeping cozy (and for gripping slippy hospital floors).

Toiletries: your hairbrush, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, moisturizer, extra hair ties, deodorant is a must.

Pillows and bath towel: Uncomfortable pillows may disturb your sleep, and one cannot rely on hospital pillows much. So do carry your favorite pillows for whatever sleep you might catch hold of when your child comes. Also, carry clean bath towels for hygiene purposes.

Nipple cream: a very mandatory thing you must have in your bag if you plan to breastfeed your child.

Sanitary napkins and disposable panties: not having periods for nine months was definitely amazing, but now that your periods will be back with a heavy flow, make sure that you have enough sanitary napkins and disposable panties.

For the Baby

Comfortable clothes:All the cute little clothes that you’ve been shopping for your baby, now is the time to use them. Make sure you have a good number of clothing sets for your little one.

Diapers: The most mandatory object is your diapers. The hospital might also provide you with some, but make sure you carry them as well.

Bottles and breast pump: whichever way you wish to feed your child, you must carry bottles. If you plan to solely depend on formula, then carry enough packs of formula milk. Breast pump is also very important if you plan to give only breastmilk to your child.

Blankets and sheets: Do carry warms blankets and comfortable sheets for your baby. Babies, who all this while were cozily inhabiting their mother comfortable wombs, might take some time in settling with the temperature of the outside. So, do keep cozy blankets to ensure they are comfortable.

Mosquito net: mosquito net is a must. In our country, where mosquitos are a nuisance, you cannot think of not having this most essential item in your list. To save your delicate babies from those harsh mosquito’s bites, make sure they are covered all with the mosquito net all the time.

Cotton roll, tissue and wet wipes: These are a must for your baby, and make sure you have enough of these items in your bag.

These are some of the most important items one must have in their hospital bag. While the list can go as long as you want, make sure that whatever you carry is important, a necessity and not a luxury. Everything that is comfortable should only be in your bag. So, pack your things and be ready for the most wonderful phase of your life! For any other doubts you may have, join Momly and ask real mothers!
